Bangkok is known as shoppers paradise. Big fancy malls and flee markets, street stalls and small traditional shops – shopping in Bangkok comes literally in all shapes and sizes!
If you are not sure where to start – come to Pratunam. Its an epicenter and an ultimate shopper’s paradise.
Platinum Fashion Shopping mall is the one that has gained a lot of attention recently, and there is a good reason for it. Here you can find almost anything. They have a good selection of baby and children clothes, I personally like the shop on the second floor next to the travelators. Fashion dresses are on the second and third floor. Good selection of bags and shoes in on upper floors of Platinum. Daily fashion items for ladies can be found on the first 3 floors, as well as more casual items. I have seen also quite a few local designer fashion there. Platinum opens around 10 am and closes at 8 pm.
New addition to the mall is a Platinum Mall 2. It connects to the first one with a bridge – or you can cross on the street level as well. If you are looking for something more high-class and fancy, use the new skywalk bridge to CentralWorld department store and lifestyle center. You literally can spend your whole day here! Great choice of moderately-priced and mostly international branded clothes for men and women, fashion and toys for kids, household items like bed linens, towels and some electrical appliances. Quite a few smaller branded boutiques are presented as well, including Zara, ForeverXXI, popular Uniqlo, moderately-priced H&M, and many, many more. Food options are also abundant – including a foodcourt on the 7th floor, inside the supermarket. Mall opens at 10 am and closes at 10 pm.
Quote often there is a “flee market” in the open are in front of CentralWorld, offering souvenirs and lots of tasty local street food (friend chicken and coconut ice cream are must-try!)
At night, there is a local market at Palladium shopping mall (across the street from Platinum), where you can find some casual stuff like jeans and t-shirts from just 99 baht. Some very affordable bags and shoes as well.
Moving further down Petchburi road there is a new NEON Talad market. On sale are all sort of souvenirs and some local handicrafts as well. The market highlight though is a “merry-go_round” and inflatable trampoline for kids.
